About the event

Join us for a captivating two-hour walking tour through the historic Avenues of Salt Lake City, where we’ll delve into the remarkable legacy of Richard Kletting, one of Utah’s most influential architects. Led by local historian Nan Weber, who is currently writing a book on Kletting, this tour provides a unique glimpse into the life and work of the man behind more than twenty homes in the Avenues, as well as iconic public buildings like the Utah State Capitol, the original Salt Palace, and the original Saltair Resort Pavilion.

Nan Weber’s fascination with Kletting’s designs began when she purchased her home in the Poplar Grove neighborhood and grew curious about the history of the nearby Fisher Mansion. Her passion for architecture led her to research and document Kletting’s significant contributions to Salt Lake City. Beyond his well-known monumental works, Kletting’s architectural legacy spans from 1883 to the 1930s, during which he designed a diverse array of buildings, including churches, commercial structures, telephone exchanges, breweries, schools, and university buildings. His work not only shaped the city’s skyline but also left a lasting impact on Utah’s architectural history.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about some of the architectural gems that have shaped Utah's history!
